August 1992 - August 2014

AnasooyAathreya-SeshaAnjaneyakrishna Athrison : August 1952 I joined Medical College . August 1992 , my career in Bhaarath India is coming to an end and USA beckoned me . My journey from East to West following the Sun across western ghats . My journey commenced in Guntur to Chennai to Mumbai ,across western seas to Heathrow London ,across Atlantic Ocean landed in Newark , New jersey on a warm day on that day in August of 1992. November 1992 my services are no longer needed in Bhaarath India. At the prescribed mandatory age of 58 I had to retire on a pension to give way to an youngster to have his/her say . I am free . For the next two years my sojourn in USA took me to Hasbrouck Heights,NJ ; Marlborough in Massachusetts and to Salt Lake City in Utah . November 1994 I have completed six decades of my existence on Mother Earth - a glorious memorable Sixty Years - Shashtti Poorthi in Vedic parlance . I am a living witness of 12 Suns each one five times meaning five times twelve Sixty - meaning of Shashtti poorthi = sixty years completion . Lord krishna Lived For 120 years and this mortal krishna is halfway = 60 years = Shashtti Poorthy. I returned back to my home in Krishna Nagar Guntur and celebrated The Vedic Ritual of my Shashtti Poorthy on that tenth day of November 1994. That was the last of my association with my home , my town Guntur and everything else I was born into . I sold my Maaruthi Cairo Dust Car , My Ancestral Home and now I have nothing left of my own - I am materially , philosophically free of all my Embryological Connections with my home town Guntur but not with my Country of Birth that is Bhaarath and free to savor my life in USA for all It's worth . So I returned back to USA by the end of 1994 and from 1994 to 2014 I am a pendulum back and forth between Bhaarath and USA worth and wherever I was I made a name for myself and I am happy to say I am A Survivor being an American while in USA and an Indian while in Bhaarath . I studied Gerontology at U Mass Boston , worked for the welfare of Seniors in USA as well in India , had more time with my own family . I traveled across America from Atlantic Ocean to Pacific Ocean , lived in several places in New Jersey , New York State , Marlborough in Massachusetts , Salt lake City in Utah , Maple valley in Seattle Washington , Savoy and Champaign in Illinois , saw Chicago , New York City The Big Apple and since December 25 of 2011 in Brighton Town a suburb of Rochester City , Monroe County , Finger lakes Region in Upstate New York and built up a happy rapport with all Brightonians , had a good time among very helpful friendly people of Brighton - Town Clerk Daniel Aman , Elder Source Felicia Davis , Visiting Nurse Nicole Swirzer RN , Star program Transport Jaqueline Hicks , Fish program Transport Marie , Lift Line Medicaid Transport , My beloved Primary Care Physician Doctor Mala Ratan Gupta MD , my Cardiologist Doctor Maurice E.Varon MD , my Eye doctor Mark S.Jacobson MD , my Apartment manager MS Allison , my Brighton Food Cover and my Brighton Your Ward Robe and My Senior center and so many memories . Again that memorable month in my life August , come August Tenth 2014 I am back in Secunderabad Bhaarath India and I eagerly await the opportunity to meet one and all in India - So Be It - what will be will be , Be happy , keep smiling - Krishna . My Life In Guntur 1983 - 1992

Life outcome is based upon three influences - 1. Parents and society in which born and brought up ; 2. Self - what one sets out to achieve by personal efforts , dreams , ambitions ; 3. Destiny - predetermined . I never thought I would become A Doctor - that one is father's influence . I became A Surgeon , Studied and Worked in England , Migrated to USA - my efforts , my dreams , my ambition . Became Professor and HOD Surgery , Director of Medical Education - all because of Destiny . I could have become A Professor of Pediatric Surgery in 1964 and again in 1976 but both times it was denied and I was reconciled . I should have become A Professor of Genito-Urinary Surgery in 1978 yet again Destiny decreed negative . Then in 1983 I became Professor of Surgery and General Surgeon junior most among four Surgical Units in Guntur Medical College / Guntur Government General Hospital where back in 1952 I joined as a first year medical student . Within a short span of seven years by 1990 I became Chief Professor of Surgery , First Surgical Unit , HOD Department of General Surgery , Additional Director of Medical Education , Dean , Medical Superintendent and on 30 November 1992 at the age of 58 years I retired As Director Of Medical Education . I built A House in my ancestral land in Guntur , Krishna Nagar ( my namesake ) , had my own Car Maruthi Cairo Dust , became A grandfather Ameya , got my Green Card and migrated to USA - all a fast moving kaleidoscopic meteoric events. My role as A Professional in State Government Medical Education Service in Bhaarath ( India ) has come to end by the end of 1992 and now I am on the threshold of my life in United States Of America - I will see you all in USA - vini , vidi , visi - but I was conquered by America with my heart , soul still in Bhaarath ( India ) .

Guntur 1978 - 1983

It has been two years since January 1976 that I have been in charge of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Surgeon in Guntur Government General Hospital / Guntur Medical College . Me an FRCS but Directorate of Medical Education wanted an M Ch Pediatric Surgery qualification and I was asked to hand over to one such M Ch qualified surgeon and it was all for my own benefit in that I was posted in the same place as Urologist / Genitourinary Surgeon Guntur GGH / GMC and I took charge on January 01 , 1978 . From the time of 1970 when I returned from England expecting miracles this new incarnation as Urologist in 1978 is one of many and I am happy to state that I did justice at all times to the society . I had a satisfactory academic accomplishment which I already mentioned . Now for the next five years from January 01 , 1978 to July 31 , 1983 I had a very happy satisfying job , performing Prostatectomies , Lithotomies , various urological surgical procedures tackling renal problems such as Hydronephrosis , Chyluria , Calculi , Trauma , and Malignancy ; ureteric implantation - vesico-ureterostomy , Urinary bladder - calculi , VVF( vesico-vaginal fistula ) , Urethral strictures , Hypospadias and many more including pediatric urological procedures . I presented papers at conferences , but history repeated with the arrival of a M Ch in Urology in July 1983 to whom I handed over my responsibility . But a much more pleasant surprise awaits and I am happy to share with you which is , I was promoted as Professor of General Surgery cum Civil Surgeon and my academic career took an upward turn which began as on August 01 , 1983 and lasted up to November 30 , 1992 when as per the existing rules I retired at the age of 58 and I am eager to share with you all , that last nine years of my professional life which I will soon . Surgeon in England March 1969 - August 1969

Now I am in Rochester , Kent at the beginning March 1969 . I was selected as A Senior House Officer in The Department of General Surgery for a period of six months from March 1969 to August 1969 . I am due to work in St.Bartholomews Hospital located on New Road , Rochester , Kent ME1 1DS ,UK . St Bart's Hospital is under the jurisdiction of Medway Community Health Care . Rochester is a beautiful and a historic town in Garden of England that is Kent . Rochester town is on the banks of River Medway , in South East of England about 30 miles ( 48 km ) from London . Rochester Town was the favorite of Charles Dickens who lived nearby at Gads Hill Place , Higham . My consultant was Mister AMB Tompkin FRCS , a very amiable English Gentleman who was my guide and a very good friend during those six months from March to August 1969 . Mr Tompkin was very punctual and a very courteous English man . Even now I can visualize MR Tompkin walking in either Operating Rooms , Surgical Clinic and / or Surgical Ward Rounds at 8 AM GMT Monday through Friday with a big genuine smile on his face wishing all ' Good Morning , Good Morning ' . It was my pleasure and a privilege to have worked under him , with him , and assisting him . I did all kinds of Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary Surgeries during that six month sojourn and I also made some extra money moonlighting at nearby Brook Hospital in Woolwich and also at Lewisham Hospital within the Borough of Lewisham and Greenwich . Those six months were hectic , very rewarding professionally as well financially . I gained as much surgical experience as I could muster and started saving money for my eventual return to Bhaarath ( India ) . In spite all my good work there was no job security and no permanency and by the end of August 1969 I had to move and I did move with Blessings from Mister AMB Tompkin FRCS and journeyed up north of England to Midlands to the banks of River Trent to Nottingham City and you will find me there at the beginning of September 1969 and if you are there you will se me , but you have to wait for me - see you !

England 1968

By February 1968 my working stay as a student in Indian YMCA Fitzroy Square London came to an end . As narrated in my previous chapter I moved into my new single bed-sitter accommodation in Shooter's Hill in Borough Of Greenwich in S E London and started my First Professional Work As A Surgeon in Woolwich War Memorial Hospital , Department Of Accidents And Emergency Surgery As A Senior House Officer From March 1968 To August 1968 . MR Samuel Levy FRCS was The Department Consultant . My work during those six months was daily from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday to Friday and every alternate day from 5 PM to 8 AM and alternate Weekends ( Saturday & Sunday ) starting at 8 AM Saturday to 8 AM Monday . I attended to all accidents inclusive of general surgery , orthopedics , surgical emergencies , injuries , wounds , burns , epistaxis , haematemesis , appendicitis et cetera . My past work experience in India ( Bhaarath ) came in handy and was very helpful to me in discharging my Professional responsibility with full credit to my past training back home . I never stepped out of hospital during those six months having my nourishment in the hospital mess itself . I had no social life , no pubs , no outing , and my only modus of relaxation is my addiction to smoking , which I shall get rid of at a later date and that is another story . I skimped and saved and as all my expenses towards accommodation and food were subsidized by National Health Service , my savings were satisfactory enough now to think of paying off my debts in England as well in Bhaarath ( India ). Towards the end of August 1968 I was given seven days leave to which I was eligible . I availed seven days leave and traveled to Preston in Lancashire by British Rail from King's Cross St. Pancras London and as arranged previously went to the home of my benefactor Sri.karri Satthireddy garu , paid off 100 Pounds Sterling which way back in December 1967 the good gentleman was kind enough to have given me unconditionally . I spent two days and one night in the gentleman's home , paid my respects to his Dharma Pathni ( Srimathi gaaru = Wife ) Saavithramma gaaru , thanked the couple profusely and returned back to my lodgings in Shooter's Hill , SE London . I sent back home money to pay off moneys I had to borrow from in laws for my travel and also to take care of my family upkeep . Now I was free from all debts and could say with pride that I will be my own boss from henceforth . I am ready to take up my next job as Surgical Registrar at Pembury Hospital Tunbridge Wells Kent with effect from September 1968 for next six months up to February 1969 - please wait for me with all the patience you can muster and I promise not to let you well wishers down , nor my folks back home - so be it !!!
